American Football (2016) C+ - Emo wunderkinds American Football are not the same band they were seventeen years ago. The production on their second studio album is glossier and the vocals have been pushed further to the front. The most drastic difference, however, lies in Mike Kinsella's lyrics; where the writing on American Football's debut was caught up in the haze of an everlasting teenage summer, the lyrics here are more concerned with what lies ahead, the depressive musings of a man pushing forty.
